The 4 Barrels Wine Trail is a self paced 8km loop trail which captures amazing boutique wine and beautiful scenery along the way.
(4 logos of each winery along here but not links to the websites at this point)
Pick up a FREE fun map to self navigate around 4 Central Otago winery tasting rooms in Cromwell. The total walking time is around 90 minutes but we recommend allowing for a half day in order to experience each winery along the way.
Each winemaker strives to perfect their own individual style in order to showcase the specific vineyard sites and the quality of the grapes. You will discover that not only does Central Otago produce world class pinot noir, it a region that also produces amazing aromatic white, rosé and sparkling wines.
Timing: The trail is 8km approximately and takes 90 minutes walking time. To visit each winery’s tasting room we recommend allowing a half day for this trail.
Tasting Room hours may vary at each winery so if you are walking outside of the main summer season we reccommend you call ahead to make sure each tasting room is open.
Cost: The only costs you may incur are the winery tasting fees which depend on the individual winery (and are redeemable on a purchase).
Lunch Options: Platters or cheeseboards are available at some vineyards during the summer season. Please enquire at other times.
You can also choose to take a picnic with you and eat at the picnic tables along the way.
Purchasing Wine: It is possible to purchase wine from any of the tasting rooms and arrange collection at a later date. Alternatively, for local Cromwell addresses or accommodation, delivery can be arranged for a flat rate fee, please ask any of your cellar door hosts for more information. For all other addresses courier charges can be provided.
Advisory:Please take extra caution when completing the trail as there is a busy highway that you will cross and walk along in part to visit all 4 wineries. Please consult the map for the recommended safest proposed crossing points and pathways.
For safety reasons shortcuts through the vineyards are prohibited.
All walkers are responsible for their own wellbeing/safety and participate in the 4 Barrels Wine Walking Trail at their own risk.
